The Google Chrome logo looks kinda square because a lot of platforms and app launchers drop the icon into a square like container or an adaptive icon frame, so it just seems that way. Actually, the real Chrome logo is circular , but Android launchers, desktop shortcuts, websites, or even image previews might crop it automatically, or they just place it on a square background for that neat “same as the rest of the icons” look. Sometimes it feels like the shape changes even when it shouldnt.
