I’m thinking about buying a 3D printer, but I’m not sure how much they usually cost. Can someone explain the price range for beginner, mid-range, and professional 3D printers, along with any extra costs I should expect?

The cost of a 3D printer depends on the type and quality you need. For beginners, a basic FDM 3D printer usually costs around $150–$300 and is good enough for simple hobby projects and learning. Mid-range printers are usually around $300–$800, offering better print quality, faster speed, auto bed leveling, and a larger build area. Professional 3D printers can start from $1,000 and go much higher, especially for industrial use or high-detail resin printing.
Also, don’t forget the extra costs. You may need to spend on filament or resin, replacement nozzles, build plates, tools, maintenance parts, and sometimes an enclosure or ventilation setup. There can also be material waste from failed prints. For a first-time buyer, a reliable beginner FDM printer is usually the best choice because it is affordable, easy to use, and cheaper to maintain.
