How to fix chromebook screen glitching out?

  • 0

Hey all, my Chromebook screen has suddenly started flickering and glitching out like a haunted TV from a horror movie. It’s practically impossible to look at without getting a massive headache.

Has anyone dealt with this before? I’m trying to figure out if there’s a quick reset trick to snap it out of it, or if the internal hardware is just dying on me. Any advice before I throw it out a window would be amazing!

Yeah I have had this happen on a Chromebook before and it’s usually not as “broken” as it feels.

First thing I try is a quick restart (sounds basic, but it actually clears the flicker a lot of the time). If that doesn’t help, check for a ChromeOS update in Settings → About ChromeOS.

Also try turning off hardware acceleration in Chrome (Settings → System → “Use hardware acceleration when available”) because that can cause screen glitching sometimes.

If it’s still happening after that, it could be a display ribbon/driver issue especially if the flicker shows even on the login screen.
