How to open command prompt?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to learn some basic computer skills and keep hearing about the Command Prompt in Windows. I’m not fully sure what it is, but I’d like to know how to open it on a Windows PC in the simplest way possible. If there are different methods depending on the version of Windows, that would be helpful too. Any beginner-friendly guidance would be appreciated.

The easiest way to open Command Prompt in Windows is to press Windows key + R, type cmd, and press Enter.

Another simple method is to click the Start button (or press the Windows key), type Command Prompt or cmd, and then select it from the search results.

For Windows 10 and Windows 11, you can also right-click the Start button and choose Windows Terminal (which can run Command Prompt as well).

If you’re just getting started, the Start menu search method is probably the most beginner-friendly.
