How to remove background in GIMP?

  • 0
  • 0

I am trying to cut an object out of a photo and make the background completely transparent using GIMP.

When I open the software, I get instantly overwhelmed by all the different selection tools. I have no idea which one I should actually be using.

What is the simplest, most foolproof method for a beginner to cleanly remove a background without leaving horrible, jagged edges around the subject?

There were many methods for selection in GIMP that used to confuse me. But I wanted the easiest method of selection. But after getting aware about the fact, I realized that if I create the Alpha Channel and then select my object using the Foreground Selection Tool, then it will be easier for me. After selecting my object, all I needed to do was delete the background and smoothen the edges of my selection. The image was saved in the form of PNG file format to keep the transparency.
