I want to share my live or current location from my iPhone with friends or family, but I’m not sure which method is the easiest. Can someone explain how location sharing works on iPhone and what settings need to be enabled for it to work properly?
You can share your location on iPhone in a few easy ways. The most common method is through the Find My app
Method 1: Using Find My
1. Open the Find My app on your iPhone
2. Tap on the People tab
3. Select Share My Location
4. Choose the contact you want to share with
5. Select duration (1 hour, until end of day, or indefinitely)
Method 2: Using Messages
1. Open Messages and go to the chat of the person
2. Tap on their name/profile at the top
3. Tap Share My Location or Send My Current Location
Important Settings (if it doesn’t work)
Make sure:
* Location Services is ON (Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services)
* Find My iPhone is enabled
* You are signed in to your Apple ID
* You’ve allowed location access for Find My app
That’s it — once enabled, the other person can see your live location if you choose “Share for an indefinite time.
