what is 192.168.l.254?

I’m trying to tweak some of my Wi-Fi settings and change my password, and this specific number keeps showing up in all the setup guides.

What does it actually do? Is it safe to type into my browser, and does it matter if it’s written with a number “1” or a lowercase letter “l” (since I see it written both ways online)?

Total networking newbie here, so break it down for me like I’m five. Thanks!

This was the question which I had in mind during the process of configuring my WiFi connection settings. Actually, 192.168.1.254 is a private IP address which is used as the default gateway by numerous routers. When I typed this address in my browser, I opened the routers configuration page where I can make changes in the settings of WiFi network.

It is absolutely harmless to put this address in the URL bar of your browser provided you have access to your router only. One more aspect which was confusing for me at the beginning was that this address was written in the form of 192.168.l.254 on the Internet. The right address is 192.168.1.254 – the place of digit “1”.
