Why did I get Gemini verification code?

I recently received a Gemini verification code message even though I did not request one myself. I’m trying to understand why this happened. Could it mean someone accidentally entered my number/email, or should I be worried that someone is trying to access my account? I have not shared the code with anyone. Has anyone else experienced this, and what steps should I take to secure my account.

You may receive a Gemini verification code if someone is trying to sign in to your Google/Gemini account using your phone number or email. If it wasn’t you, don’t share the code with anyone and consider changing your password and enabling two-factor authentication for better security.
