How do I fix yellow spot on my phone screen?

  • 1
  • 1

I recently noticed a yellow spot appearing on my phone screen. The spot is visible on light backgrounds and seems to stay in the same area of the display. I’m not sure if it’s caused by screen pressure, heat damage, a display issue, or something else. Has anyone experienced this problem before? What are the possible causes, and are there any fixes I can try before getting the screen repaired or replaced?

I’ve run into this before, and unfortunately, it is almost always a hardware issue rather than a quick software glitch.

Here are the two main reasons I see this happen:

One is overheated screen glue. This is the most common culprit. The adhesive holding your display layers together gets baked from the phone running too hot and turns yellow. If it’s just glue damage, it’s mostly cosmetic, but harmless.

Another one is the swelling battery. If the yellow spot is caused by the battery expanding underneath and pushing against the screen, that’s a different story. Check your phone from the side. If you see even a tiny bit of bulging or warping, I’d stop using it and get the battery replaced immediately because an expanding battery can be dangerous.

Can you fix it yourself? Honestly, no. If letting the phone cool down completely doesn’t make the spot disappear, the damage to the screen panel or glue is permanent. If it doesn’t bother you and the phone isn’t bulging, you can just live with it. Otherwise, you’ll need to take it to a shop for a screen or battery replacement.
