I want to know how to lock my computer properly so my files and personal information stay safe when I step away. I need a quick way to lock it without shutting it down, and I also want to make sure it asks for a password when I come back.

To lock your computer properly, use the built-in lock option instead of shutting it down. On Windows, press Windows + L or click Start > user icon > Lock. On Mac, press Control + Command + Q. This immediately locks the screen while keeping your apps and files open. Make sure your account has a strong password or PIN set. Also enable Require sign-in on wake in settings so the computer asks for a password whenever you return from sleep or screen lock. For better safety, set the screen to lock automatically after a few minutes of inactivity. Avoid sharing your password with anyone too.
